Will Your Insurance Cover Your Lactation Visit?

Lactation Coverage is finally starting to happen with insurance companies! Did you know that "most" insurance companies now offer up to 6 visits without any co-payment by you? Since our insurance list is always updating, it's best to click the link below and submit a request. It can take up 24-48 hours for a decision. Have questions about what is covered? Any lactating person who is pumping or feeding directly from the breast may qualify for free lactation coverage.

Can be supplementing with formula.

Does insurance cover formula feeding consultations?

No, the feeding parent must be lactating for the consultation to be covered by insurance. 

Self pay would be required.

Can I do a prenatal visit through my insurance?

Yes! If you are approved for insurance coverage, then you can do an in person or Telehealth consultation.

Does insurance cover a hospital lactation visit?

No, most hospitals have on staff IBCLC support. 

You can still provide your own lactation support, but it is not covered.

Does insurance cover post-frenectomy consultations, when the feeding parentis not lactating?

No, the parent must be providing breastmilk/lactating for the insurance to cover. 

Self pay required for formula only feeding consultations.

If my insurance is approved, how may lactation visits can I have?

If your insurance is approved, you can have up to 6 visits at no cost to you!

Is it worth it to do the follow up visits?

Absolutely! Doing a pre and post weight check, checking latch and progress is important for both mom and baby.
